St Augustine is located thirty minutes south of Jacksonville. St Augustine and Jacksonville are connected by both I-95 and US1. St. Augustine is also connected to the Jacksonville area beaches via A1A that goes along the coast. While the St Augustine postal address covers a very large territory and goes north to the 210 Corridor, the actual city of St Augustine is a much smaller area. Historic St Augustine, the "Old Town" section is located between US1 and the Matanzas River. St Augustine Florida was established in 1565. The World Golf Village about 15 minutes away from downtown is perhaps one of St Augustine's most well-known subdivisions with two world class golf courses. There are also golf and country clubs a few miles further north along the 210 Corridor and north into Jacksonville.
There are many different options for housing in St Augustine. Single family homes are prevalent. Condos are a very popular choice in St Augustine beach. With so many different housing types and prices, there is a choice for everyone. The historic St Augustine area is filled with boutique shops and restaurants with a local flavor. With it's proximity to the ocean, seafood restaurants are the main attraction here, with people coming from miles around to dine in the local favorites. Outside of downtown you have many chain stores including a Target and Wal-Mart. You also have many popular restaurant chains including Red Lobster, Outback Steakhouse, Carabba's Italian food and many more!
The historical sites and the beaches can keep you busy for weeks. A few of the main attractions in the historical district are Ripley's, Potter's Wax Museum, Fountain of Youth, Lightner Museum, Oldest House, Old Jail, the old Fort Castillo de San Marcos and more. There are even horse drawn carriages for the romantics.
The St Augustine beaches have powdery white sand and enough waves for surfers. The St Augustine beaches always have plenty of sunshine
and there is a pier for sightseeing. Certain parts of the beach can be driven on. With all of the local waterways, boating is fun and exciting.
Golf courses are easily accessible all over the St Augustine area.
